The claim that “Christmas is pagan” survives only because people prefer the thrill of secret knowledge over the burden of truth. They boast as if they've uncovered some hidden revelation that proves the Church deceived people two thousand years ago. Yet the entire belief system of the deceived ones rests on a single, rotten foundation: the fraudulent work of 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐩, author of 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑇𝑤𝑜 𝐵𝑎𝑏𝑦𝑙𝑜𝑛𝑠 (1858). Hislop invented parallels. He forced false etymologies. He made sweeping historical claims without citations or evidence. Scholars across every discipline have rejected his work for over a century. It's time to spread the truth.
𝐑𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐝 𝐇𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐨𝐧, Oxford-trained historian, states plainly in 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑆𝑡𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑆𝑢𝑛 (Oxford University Press, 1996) that Hislop’s thesis is “entirely bankrupt” and unsupported by any historical record. 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐋. 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐛𝐞, professor of Hebrew Bible at the University of Hull, identifies Hislop’s method as “unscholarly, speculative, and unsupported by primary sources.” No reputable historian, archaeologist, or linguist cites Hislop as a legitimate authority. His work belongs to the realm of conspiracy, not scholarship. So, why do we continue to put up with the lie that "Christmas is pagan" every year?
It's stunning; many in Torah-pursuant circles cling to Hislop as if he were a prophet. They repeat his myths because it gives them a sense of superiority. They parade their supposed enlightenment. They treat their ignorance as virtue. Scripture describes this posture: “Professing to be wise, they became fools” (Romans 1:22). Their pride demands a secret knowledge others lack. So, they boast it every year. It is the same temptation that seduced Eve: “You will be like God” (Genesis 3:5).
The historical record contradicts their claims at every point:

𝐒𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐮𝐬 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐮𝐬 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐬 (c. 221 CE), in his 𝐶ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑜𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑝ℎ𝑖𝑎𝑖, calculated the conception of Yeshua to March 25 based on priestly rotations in Luke 1. Nine months later brings us to December 25 (Adler, 𝐶ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑜𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑝ℎ𝑖𝑎𝑖, 1906). 𝐇𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐭𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐞, writing around the same time, explicitly placed Messiah’s birth on December 25 in his Commentary on Daniel 4.23.3 (Bonwetsch, 𝐻𝑖𝑝𝑝𝑜𝑙𝑦𝑡𝑢𝑠 𝑊𝑒𝑟𝑘𝑒, 1897).
These sources predate Constantine by more than a century. They also predate any Roman festival tied to December 25. Thus, 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐬.

Saturnalia was celebrated on December 17. Brumalia began in late November. Neither was on December 25.
The Roman celebration of 𝐒𝐨𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐬 did not move to December 25 until 274 CE, under Emperor Aurelian—𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐲 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐲 (Talley, 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑂𝑟𝑖𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐿𝑖𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑔𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝑌𝑒𝑎𝑟, 1986, pp. 88–91). The evidence shows the opposite of what the proud claim: 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞. Yet the self-anointed “enlightened ones” sneer at any remembrance of His birth. They condemn what Scripture celebrates. Do they elevate their pride above the Word of God?
Their arrogance stands in open rebellion against the text itself. They reduce Luke 2 to an inconvenience. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐩’𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲.

Those who spread the pagan-Christmas myth have aligned themselves, knowingly or not, with the Accuser. They reject evidence. They reject Scripture. They reject the Incarnation. They preach suspicion instead of salvation.
They must repent. They must abandon the lie. They must bow to the truth: “Let God be true but every man a liar” (Romans 3:4).
This is the historical record. This is the scholarly consensus. This is the Scripture they deny. Their pride is their downfall. We must expose their lie.
Celebrating Christmas on December 25th is an early Church practice.
So now that you know you shouldn't trust Alexander Hislop - he is a fraud, every claim he made about the pagan origins of Christianity must be rejected! So challenge the false myth this year, and speak the truth with love. If you want to celebrate the birth of the Messiah, do it! You are not breaking any commands within the Torah.
So now, for forgiveness, I know if you have believed the lie in the past, it is not easy to admit when you've been made a fool of. But authenticity and integrity applaud humility, and the c
